In her interview, “When the lockdown was announced I got to know that there will be no test. This made me think and go through special studies for this. It took seven to eight days to design this mask. I noticed that people are using a normal mask that does not prevent the virus from entering. This somewhat pushed me to create more effective alternate. This mask is designed not only to protect the human being from Coronavirus infection but its designed to kill the virus instantly the moment it comes in contact with the mask, I have received multiple state awards. But this feeling is completely different. I am overwhelmed.”
Ms. Bose always had a great interest in science and vision to strengthen technology with scientific methodologies drove her to design this special facemask. She very well utilized her free time due to school closure for studying, researching & developing a solution that could be a savior not only for the normal public but also for medical professionals during this pandemic.
How this actually work?
Diganta Bose explains, “This is a two-fold facemask, which includes double single passage valves and filters fitted in two directions. The valves are further attached to two separate chambers.” While inhaling, a person will get filtered air through one of the valves to get access to the lung and the virus will get killed while entering through the air.
Further, she explains,“When an infected person exhales, or sneezes, the contaminated droplets from his/her lung will go through the other single way valve attached to another chamber that traps the virus in the lipid-protein cover thus destroying the virus”
How did the idea come up?
As mentioned earlier, nationwide lock-down and closure of schools gave her ample time to design this face-mask. With an aim to help the nation in this pandemic, the teenager converted & utilized her home as a laboratory for researching and developing.
